The village provides plenty of good eating places, pubs and cafe. There is a selection of really good shops. Our local Co-op, North East winner of the best local retailer of the year, stocks just about anything you might want at competitive prices and the eight till late shop means there’s always somewhere to get supplies. Recently extensively modernised the local Post Office provides, along with postal services, a coffee shop, news-agency and gift shop. Also in the village you’ll find a butchers and chemist .and at the Mill Yard a bakery, micro brewery and other shops.
Watch the notice boards and shop windows in the village centre as most week-ends you’ll find there’s musical or theatrical entertainment going on at some local venue. At new year Allendale is noted for its Tar Barrel celebration.
There are a wealth of wonderful walks right on the doorstep as well as horse riding and golf just a few miles up the valley. Keen fishermen can enjoy fishing at Langley, just four miles down the road. |
