Area Information
Present day Levoča is an urban cultural historical reservation and it ranks among the most beautiful historic towns in Slovakia. Beside the work of Master Paul of Levoca in St.Jacob’s Church admirable is also the Reneissance Town Hall, the today’s Spis Museum with a pillory in front of it. The tourist region of Spis has an abundance of cultural and historic monuments, the most significant of them being the Spis Castle, a National Culture Monument. Since 1993 the castle and its surroundings have been registered in the UNESCO's List of World's Nature and Culture Heritage. As its area is over 4 ha, it is one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe. Also well known is a tourist trail called "Gothic Route” which is a 267 km long trail through the Spis and Gemer region historical monuments. Its location in close proximity of the most popular tourist area in Slovakia, the Tatra Mountains and the international airport Poprad-Tatry makes this a great place for living or use as a holiday retreat. The newly opened ski resort Levocska Dolina and the Slovak Paradise are also only short drive from the town.
