I've come across this page from the Bulgarian Embassy that lists agents that sell property in Bulgaria http://www.bulgarianembassy.org.uk/business/property.html

I am looking at buying an apartment in Bansko with a mate and going half each on it, we have spoken with the UK people at http://www.bulgarianproperties.com/
Does anyone have any experience with them as we don't want to end up getting stung or anything?

The list of agents on the embassy site does not constitute a recommendation of any of those agents nor the services they provide. Amongst that list I am sure there are good and bad.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to ask the agents you think of using for contact information for customers who have bought through them, so that you can talk to those people for yourself.

Use common sense and ask plenty of questions of any agent you are considering using; the good ones will give you good and correct answers. If they are evasive or do not want to answer your questions, then question yourself if you wish to continue with them. The one thing I would always say is whatever agent you are using, please do get your own independent lawyer and do not rely on their in-house lawyer - you'll get really good advice that way and peace of mind too as they will be acting in your interests not those of the agent.

The Embassy list so many people that it isn't that useful.

Bulgarian Properties are a leading agency and from what I've heard, have a reasonably good reputation.

I'd also check out a company called Bulgarian Dreams (http://www.bulgariandreams.com). They have a pretty substantial range of new build property in Bulgaria (http://www.bulgariandreams.com) which I understand is only available through themselves. I bought in the Orchard (http://www.bulgariandreams.com/property/theorchard_bansko/phase2.htm) in Bansko (http://www.bulgariandreams.com/area_profiles/bansko.htm), construction of which has now started as I'm an avid skier!

Off-plan properties in Bansko are availible at www.myproperty.bg. Look them through, you may find something you like :)

The agency is still new, and offers apartments only in luxurious resorts, but is picking up speed :)
