Hello My name is Nick Foul and I`m looking for a small cozy house near to Stara Planina. I examine many real estate agent`s web page in Bulgaria. Yesterday I hit accidentally this web site: http://therealestate.co.uk/ and I was wondered why theirs prices are soo low? I write to office`s mailbox, and they told me that their custom politics is to provide cheap properties for the foreigner.
Are you employ the service of this agens?
Thank you
Nick Foul

Did you get any response to your query?
I have only just joined the forum and saw your message.
Yes, definitely, you can buy properties very cheaply indeed BUT if you want to do them up they will cost a LOT in the end. Some people buy in order just to invest and sell on the land/house later so that is another matter.
If you are just looking for an inexpensive holiday home and are able to do a lot of the work yourself, you can get a cheap deal. However, the really cheap ones normally need knocking down and starting again! It all depends what you want the property for. It may be better to pay a little more and have less expense for renovations.
I bought two houses, a very old on and a fairly new one and it is proving very expensive to get them to the standard I want even though I am living here and able to get some things cheaper than if I went through an agent. I was told I could get all the work done really cheaply but it isnt that cheap if you are on a small budget. If you have a good amount available, however, the building work does cost very significantly less than in the rest of Europe especially UK.
If you can afford it, I would use a good agent and recommend bulgarianproperties.com - they will be honest with you about the amount of work needed and about negative points on the properties.
If you have specific questions I will try to help - eg. cheap ways to get from airport to the town you're aiming for.

I think Sandra is right about the cheap properties. They present less oportunities for investment. If you want to buy something in Bulgaria better aim on locations near the see, near ski resorts or near Sofia city. These are hot locations to buy a house or land, because if things don't work out you can still sell the property and make some profit. You can check out the company I was working with http://pdbulgaria.com
The properties they have shown on the web site are not everithing they have, so is with most of the companies. So don't rely only on web pages for buying a property. Better contact some agent (like this one) to get the hotest properties and information about the buying proces , etc.
Wish you luck

Hello Nick,
My name is Kiril. It depends on what you consider a low price. For example there are properties in Bulgaria that could be purchased with 5000 euro. Of course this will be a small house, in need of TOTAL renovation. There are other houses, ready to live in, just in need of some modernization at the price of 20.000 euro. If you want a new-built house it will cost from 40.000 euro. And these are still low prices if you compare them with the prices in the UK. I've been living in Florence (Italy) for 8 years and it is not possible to buy a one-bedroom apartment with 200.000 euro because the prices are higher. I have been in the UK for 3 months and I noticed that the prices are similar. So I understand why you think that the prices in Bulgaria are very low. But they really are. Just because Bulgaria is not developed yet like other countries from central and western Europe.
If you are still looking for a mountain house in Bulgaria have a look at this one. http://www.sweetbulgarianhome.com/index.php?room=viewer&subroom=index&id=171
