Default Do you teach English ?? - 10-29-2008, 02:38 PM

We are crying out for English teachers here in Sri Lanka. I live in Negombo, a large tourist town in the Grampha district, Western Province of Sri lanka. English teachers are required in both state and private international schools. The salaries not great but the cost of living is in direct proportion to it! Its never how much you earn but how much you get to keep of it! If any adventurous English teacher feels inclined to come teach in Sri lanka for a year or two where students actually respect their teachers, violence in schools is almost unheard of, school starts at 7.30am and ends at 1.30pm, the beach is close and the climate fabulous 300 days of the year, then i have a very nice one bedroom chalet apartment located on my property (actually i have two) which i built in 2005/6 'to let' each sleeping three people with all mod cons. Each chalet consists of a bedroom, lounge, bathroom and kitchenette. Tel/fax, broadband internet, satellite TV and daily maid service and its all yours for a year for just $2750 (USD) thats about 1500 pounds a year for three people (500 pounds each) to live and work on this beautiful island of Sri Lanka, sharing a very nice chalet indeed for a full year, payable monthly in advance. I am English born and bred and my wife is Sri lankan, I have been visiting Sri Lanka since 1980 and living here full time since 2005. I just need to generate a little more income to supplement my pension or sell my property here which i am loath to do!! No key money, no deposit and no funny business! We have had paying guests from all over the UK who will vouch for our honesty if required. Mail me for more details and pix if your interested. i will of course assist in finding you suitable emplyment here plus working visa. Anyone interested?

Default Hi Gary - 11-12-2008, 11:55 AM

Are you qualified to teach English? I am not so i have been teaching privately from a classroom which i constructed on the side of my home here. Using poster advertising i recruited 39 pupils in a matter of weeks and then found that teaching was not for me. If you are qualifed you can teach in an international school here, if not teach privately as i did. My business here The UK SL Business Burea is registered to teach. But most of my income now comes from holiday chalets rented to tourists and my wifes hair & beauty salon. I dont have the necessary patence to teach i'm afraid, if you do there is a great opportunity to live on a tropical Island with a wonderful climate and teach local students, old and young, who are very very keen to learn English and willing to pay to do so.

Nope, I don't speak english but I do speak it as an english medium. Here in Philippines most Filipinos speak in English, although some are not that fluent.

Default Hi - 11-26-2008, 09:09 PM

The LTTE have never hurt a foreigner to Sri Lanka and the salary depends upon where you teach.

Default Impossible to say off hand........ - 11-27-2008, 01:16 AM

One would have to contact each international school to ask their current salary maybe you could use the internet. Most are located in Colombo the capital so ot shouldd be a straightforward exercise. Avoid state schools their salary and facilities will not be good.
