| Selcuk town is a ‘real’ town of 26,000 people surrounded by fertile fields of mandarins, cotton, peaches, cherries, and vegetables. Situated next to the ancient city of Ephesus (second most visited ancient site in turkey) the town centre is busy in the summer with tourists, but equally alive in winter as the locals go about their daily life.
Within a 15 minute-drive are four beautiful swimming beaches, two extensive water parks, and numerous hills and mountains for walking.
A fast train runs through the town from Izmir to Denizli, and local and national bus links are frequent and inexpensive.
The town has a private airport, five supermarkets, banks, hospital, private health clinic (staff speak English and German) and an extensive weekly fruit and vegetable market.
The house itself is in a quiet area of older Selcuk residents, and is on a gentle rise above the town, with lovely views of the mountains (where Mary’s House is situated), St John’s Basilica and the coast. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to the centre and there are two small shops selling bread, milk, and other basic supplies within 50 metres. |
