“GRAY FOX” MONTANA GETAWAY USA

About this 3 - Unusual |
Nestled on the edge of the pines, in the foothills of the Sapphire Mountains, facing the snow capped peaks of the Bitterroot Range and
overlooking Montana’s famous Bitterroot Valley this beautiful Cedar home can be your vacation getaway or your permanent home.
This 2400 sq. ft. three story Cedar home on the edge of Calf Creek Game Management Area, a winter and spring Elk calving range, is a dream come true for anyone interested in viewing wildlife, riding,
boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, rafting, sledding or just plane relaxing on the 800 sq. ft. deck watching the clouds float by in Big Sky Country.
20 plus acres of pine and pasture at 4000 ft elevation, the property has a small year round creek and several springs. It is home to Whitetail Deer, Porcupine,Yellow Bellied Marmot, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, Great Grey Owl, Great Horned Owl, Red Tail Hawk, Ringneck Pheasant, Hungarian Partridge, Ruffed Grouse, Quail, hummingbirds which can be seen on any given day. And the spring and summer resident the Blue Bird. Elk, Mule Deer, Moose, Black Bear all visit the property at various times of the year.
Bald Eagle, Red Tailed Hawk and the occasional Golden Eagle, hunting the tree line, can be seen drifting by the 2 large windows in the upstairs master bedroom as you view the Bitterroot Range from your bed.
The house is 3 levels with 2 bedrooms upstairs and one large full bathroom with a shower and bathtub. One very large and one smaller, perfect for a couple who wants to keep an eye on an infant or toddler. The main level is open to the kitchen, living and dining room with one half bathroom. And the lower level is one large bedroom or family room with an outside entrance and a full bathroom, ideal for older children. Also on the lower level is a smaller side room and large closet space. The laundry area is located on the lower level near a cool storage pantry room.
There is a 2 car garage with an entrance into the house through a “mud room”. Adjoining the “mudroom” is a small fly tying room so dad can be alone.
The house has electric baseboard heat and a wood stove on every floor making it economical for heating and a warm cozy Montana atmosphere.
The house is so well insulated that we seldom use more than one woodstove on the main floor to heat the entire house.
The main level and the upper level are all pine grooved wood sided and the large master bedroom has a 14 foot vaulted and wood paneled ceiling adding to the Montana charm of the home.
All 20 plus acres are fenced and gated and a smaller area around the house is fenced and gated as well so your pets are secure. A 10 x 20 ft. dog run sits just below the home in the pines and is easily viewable from the deck.
A 1500 sq. ft. barn is adjacent to the home with a small chicken coop just below it towards the creek. An irrigation canal runs through the property and picks up the creek just below the house making a quiet, cool secluded spot for picnics or cooling of in the summer. Raspberries grow along the creek. Wild asparagus is found along all the side roads in the area. Although the growing season is short my wife grows a beautiful vegetable garden each year.

Area Information |
| Hamilton is just 13 minutes away for shopping. Missoula , home of the University of Montana, is just 45 minutes away for your larger shopping needs or your children’s education.
The famous Bitterroot River, one of the last vestiges of large Native American Cutthroat Trout, is just 20 minutes away and a world renowned for its fly fishing.
Como Lake is just 25 minutes south with a good population of Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee Salmon. The largest natural lake west of the rocky mountain chain, Flathead Lake, is just 2 and 1/2 hours north for boating and fishing for very large Macinkaw Lake Trout. My wife caught a 38 1/2“ Lake Trout with a 27” girth last year.
Snow skiing is just 45 minutes away at Lost Trail Ski Resort on the Idaho border where there is never a lift line.
One mile due south is the Famous “Bitterroot Stock Farm” owned by Charles Schwaub and formerly owned by Charles Daly who pioneered the valley and bred the famous breed of winter range race horses.
