BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The house is at the moment surrounded by pastoral silence, broken only by the early evening sounds of camels and goats returning from their mountain pastures. The house is joined to another house along one wall, there are no plans for further development of the surrounding country side. There is provision made for mains electricity in the house, at the moment lighted by solar power. The overheads are quarterly water bills of no consequence. No yearly taxes need paying. The present owner finds it easy to get somebody to look after her place in her absence with very little outlay indeed. All properties in this Oasis village are bought and sold completely legally via the community offices; titres are not necessary, but can later be applied for if one wishes. I as a European have bought and sold here without any problem. Help with all Moroccan Administration is available. Current drawbacks: The approach road to the Oasis village, although asphalted is small with quite a lot of traffic coming and going from the nearby town of Guelmim. There are local buses and some taxis, but shops and cafe/restaurants will provide all the necessaries. Due to some new developments, largely farms, the road may well be made easier in the near future. Anyone retiring to Abaynou must be able to withstand the mid-summer heat of Morocco, or install a cooling system. Best time to stay is from November to June. There are already a few European residents in the village.
