| KYTHNOS - THE SECRET ISLAND
There where the deep blue of the Aegean meets the blue sky, a volcanic island with breathtaking beauty valleys, caves and unique Cycladic color.
The vivid island of KYTHNOS or Thermia lies between Kea and Serifos.
The distance from Piraeus is 52 nautical miles (2 hours and 40 minutes by boat and less than 1 hour and 30 minutes by speedboat).
Kythnos is the most beautiful of the islands in the western Cyclades with traditional Cycladic landscape, traditional architecture picturesque streets, archaeological sites, countless churches, picturesque coves and spotless sandy beaches.
The coastline length of 22 km has several small bays, (about 125 beaches out of which at least 60 accessible) and many caves used as shelters by the seal monachus monachus.
In the western part of Kythnos are shaped two closed bays, between which has been created a geological shaping that links the island with the island of Saint Lukas and is one of the few that exists in Greece. Most of the area is covered by a complicated drainage system with springs, streams as well as with a few small waterfalls.
The unique landscape of land and sea overwhelms any friend of nature and keeps undiminished his interest.
The island (Kythnos) has two villages, Kythnos (Hora) and Dryopida (Village). Each village has its port: Hora has Loutra and Dryopida Mericha. Also there are the seasonal holiday villages Virgin Mary Kanala, Saint Dimitrios, Flampoyria, Episkopi, and other. |
