Area Information |
| West Kingsdown is a quiet village in Kent. It is just outside the M25 (Aprox. 10mins drive)
Paste this ref into Google Maps for house (If you use the post code or MAP link here, it will show the wrong house - wrong road even): 51°20'32.93"N 0°15'50.58"E - Note:- the google picture seems to be at least 5 years old (eg. our conservatory missing, wrong cars in the drive, garden landscaping missing, a petrol station shown has since been redeveloped into houses), however the area is pretty much unchanged. The access road to our home is private and leads to only two properties through a five bar gate marked private ). It is maintained by the owner (West Kingsdown Medical Centre) at no cost to residents - full right of way is in the deeds.
There is a very good state primary school in the village as well as a private one just 5 minite drive from the main village road. There are many secondary schools, including grammer and Technical Colleges nearby. Some provide travel arrangements by coach, pick up points in the village, - the council will also provide free bus passes. There are also a couple of Nursary schools.
There are two shoping pantiles, both within in walking distance, consisting of two estate agents, post office/paper shop, florist, butchers, bakers, co-op, beauty/hairdressers, hardware/tool shop and Chinese/chip shop. The village also has a very good Indian Restaurant, a village hall, two pubs (plus more within close driving distance), Catholic, CofE and Baptist churches (including a working church dating back to the 1100's in the woods), bus stops and two cafes. There is a petrol station on the edge of the village opposite a timber merchants, a stone merchant is within a five minute drive, as is a large garden centre. The West Kingsdown Medical Centre is a modern clinic with a resident nurses and three doctors. There is also a library, swing park, several playing fields (one with goal posts etc) and a skateboard park. There are woods to hike in and public footpaths through the farmland. There is a river not far from the village that kids often spend summer days catching sticklebacks and minnows - there is a pub next to it with a large garden which serves food to tables along the bank.
The area is semi-rural with farms and woods surrounding the village - from my lounge window I can see miles of unspoilt Kent country side.
The village is very quiet, but within easy driving distance of major motorways (M25/M20/M26/A20) and train services to London (Victoria/BlackFriars).
The nearest town is Swanley (7 miles), and Dartford (10 miles) is not much further afield. West Kingsdown has a dedicated police officer and a PCSO.
Bluewater shopping centre (with multiscreen cinema) is about 10 miles away as is the Orchard Theatre. |
