| The village of Saint-Clar is unique in south-west France in that it has two galeried squares and two churches. Its old winding streets and white-stone houses are steeped in history. A colourful market with an interesting array of local seasonal produce is held on Thursday mornings. The village is also well known for its garlic market and museum featuring a 1930’s schoolhouse.
The region is internationally renowned for its gastronomy. Local specialities include foie gras, duck confit, garlic, tourin, floc de Gascogne, melons and honey.
The area offers many leisure activities such as a spa, golf, lakes with outdoor activities, cycling, walking, local markets, castles, churches and cathedrals, museums and art exhibitions, visits to local wine producers, and gastronomic cuisine.
Many festivals and special events are held locally in the summer including gourmet evenings and the Garlic Festival in Saint-Clar and international astronomy events and the Cuivro’Foliz music festival in nearby Fleurance.
Saint-Clar is just 45 miles from Toulouse airport, 25 miles from Agen railway station (four hours from Paris on the high-speed TGV train). The nearest motorway junction (the A62 from Bordeaux to Toulouse) is 25 miles from Saint-Clar. |
