The Philippines' Bases Conversion and Development Authority on Thursday announced that the Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group has made known its interest in building a six-star luxury hotel and luxury residences inside Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.

| BCDA President and CEO Narciso Abaya said the site of Shangri-La for the project is the 1.2-hectare lot owned by the government beside the City Center of the Bonifacio Global City.
The lot, formerly known as the Government Center for Investment, was also the area being eyed by the real-estate and entertainment tycoon Donald Trump for a planned integrated complex project.
Abaya said Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Vice President Greg Dogan revealed its plan to build a six-star hotel and luxury residences in the area during a preliminary presentation made by the company before the BCDA Board on May 15.
Santos said Shangri-La Group's plan is a welcome development in the overall development of the Bonifacio Global City.
Abaya said the signified interest of both Shangri-la and Trump groups for the 1.2 hectare lot at the Bonifacio Global City manifests sustained solid investor confidence in the developments in the area.
The Bonifacio Global City is located only a few minutes away from the Makati and Ortigas Central Business Districts, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and major thoroughfares like C-5.
The Global City also has world-class infrastructure including an underground drainage detention structure with the capacity to hold 22million liters of water and release it under controlled conditions to prevent floods. It also has a fiber optic cabling network to support a wide range of telephone, video and data applications.
Shangri-La Luxury Residences to open at the Fort
SHANGRI-LA Asia Limited, Asia Pacifics leading luxury hotel company, will open Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila in 2012, located within the Fort Bonifacio former military base and city centre.
At over 60 storeys, comprising 500 guestrooms and 234 LUXURY APARTMENTS FOR SALE, the building is destined to become a Manila landmark.
The new hotel will complement the company's four existing hotel properties in the Philippines and the Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Boracay, scheduled to open at the end of 2008.
The mixed-use business, residential and retail tower will be located along Fifth Avenue and 30th, within the new, fast-developing Taguig business district. A 30-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel will also be close to the Manila Golf and Polo Club,and 10 minutes from Makati district, the capitals financial, cultural and entertainment hub with first-class shopping malls.
Shangri-La has named US-based Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP as architect and Hirsch Bedner Associates will undertake the interior design for guestrooms and the main lobby. The tower will present a contemporary yet timeless design with the facade of the building tapering skyward, maximising the ocean view.
Guestrooms will range in size from 52 square metres / 560 sqft for a standard room to 260 square metres 2799 sqft for a Horizon Club room.
The Horizon Club, Shangri-La's exclusive retreat for discerning travellers, will offer a host of special amenities and privileges,including a lounge for daily breakfast and cocktails, meeting rooms,and express check-in and check-out services.
Dining and entertainment options will include an all-day café, delicafé, specialty restaurant, Chinese restaurant, lobby lounge, poolside bar and barbecue, and an entertainment and bar area that will occupy two levels and have its own direct street access.
An extensive health club, swimming pools and tennis courts will provide a choice of recreational activities.
The hotel will feature over 4,600 square metres / 49,514 sqft of meeting and banqueting facilities including a grand ballroom, junior ballroom, 11 function rooms, boardroom, business centre, individual teleconferencing room and a 350-square-metre / 3767 sqft high-end outdoor event area.
