St. Vincent is considered to be a heart of Cape Verde and in contrast to big city Praia (an official capital of Cape Verde) Mindelo is a cultural capital of the country and nice European town combining Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and English architecture and doesn’t cede to Praia in area size. Harbor in Mindelo is more convenient for ship mooring. Mindelo already has its large marine (three more are being built in St. Vincent). The most attractive and high budget carnivals of Cape Verde are held in Mindelo where popular actors and musicians from Brazil are invited. Lazaretto is suburban area of Mindelo and is elite residential parish with its own beaches 5 minutes away from town.
