Area Information |
| Stretton lies to the east of the A1 Great North Road in the county of Rutland smallest county in England, in the grounds of Stocken Hall.
The Hall was built by John Brown during the reign of James I. In 1707 the estate of Stretton was purchased by the Heathcote family who never lived at the property despite improving the hall with a new georgian facade. The Duke of Wellington's horse "Copenhagen" was bred in the mews. After nuemrous tenants, the estate was bought in 1907 by Major fleetwood hesketh who lived at the hall until the second world warwhen it was requisitioned by the air ministry. The property has now been sympathetically restored into eleven apartments. Stocken Hall farm which surroounds the mews is also under new management and rebfurbishment.
Rutland boasts the smallest county in England set amongst some of the most beautiful undulating countryside. The county offers an excellent range of sporting and educational facilities.
Free school bus is provided to the mews.
Rutland water provides recreational & leisure pursuits in first class surroundings including trout fishing windsurfing saling and cycling.
Stamford & Oakham are only only ten minutes drive and the city of Peterborough provides a set of more comprehensive shopping and a 50 minute rail link to Kings Cross St Pancras. |
