Area Information |
| South Ronaldsay is the warmest and most conveniently located of the Orkney islands. Just one hour from Caithness (can see it from drawing room) and a half hour drive over the Churchill Barriers (series 4 causeways) to the island capital, Kirkwall. There, find an excellent secondary school (all school transport provided free from house), 3 supermarkets, full range of shopping, Boots/Woolies etc, superb deli, nice cafes, cinema, new sports centre, swimming pool, bowling. Also ferries to other islands. Orkney is the friendliest of all the Scottish islands and the community here takes newcomers to its heart. The village here is genuinely friendly and welcoming. Lots of village events and a dynamic artistic community. No presbyterian hangups, no Sunday rules. (viking pagan history!) None of the astonishing neolithic and Viking visits are more than 45 minutes drive. Skara Brae, Maes Howe, Mine Howe, Ring of Brodgar; Kirkwall's extraordinary Viking cathedral. A wonderful place to live and work. |
