Area Information
Zagorohoria is a network of 46 villages, where one can find what one prompts: lively or calm villages, ones with incredible views, or villages inside the forest; forests and arid peaks, crystal clear rivers as Voidomatis and alpine lakes, such as Drakolimni. Zagorohoria visitors can also admire the traditional architecture of stone and wood which are the main materials used. The Vikos gorge (or ravine of Vikos) is also an attraction that deserves not only to be seen but is also worth walking through, as it is crossed by a marked European path. Some of the many activities that one can enjoy are hiking, horseback riding, climbing, mountaineering, rafting, canoeing / kayaking, and mountain bike. People are more than welcoming and friendly. Traditional foods great! Do not forget to try their famous pies, sweets and meats of the region. Accompany your meal with a nice local red wine, and spend your evenings drinking the local tsipouro. The Kato Pedina village, a known settlement since 1361, is built amphitheatricaly on the slopes of three hills, at the foot of a high plateau with six stone wells. Large stone houses of the village go up the hill to Bafarachi Kalpaki. At "Gortzis" and "Lakkia Spanos' ancient tombs of the 11th and 12th century have been found. Nearby is the Monastery of the Archangels (1591)
